An elderly man died after being struck by a bus on Monday afternoon (the 31st) in the Vila Calu neighborhood, in São Paulo's South Zone.

According to preliminary information, the bus was making a turn when the victim—who appeared to be on the sidewalk—slipped and fell into the roadway. The driver was unable to brake in time, and the man was struck by the bus.

Firefighters responded to the scene, but the victim succumbed to his injuries and died on the spot.

Following the accident, the area was cordoned off for a forensic investigation. The road remains completely closed, causing congestion and heavy traffic in the area.

Due to the closure, buses that normally travel along this stretch of road are being diverted to alternative routes.

Authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the accident. The information released so far is preliminary and may be updated once the investigation and related procedures are concluded.
