The severed head of a 4-year-old girl, displayed by her Muslim nanny.

Gulchekhra Bobokulova, a 38-year-old Muslim nanny from Uzbekistan, was caring for a 4-year-old Russian girl named Anastasia Mescheryakova. She strangled the little girl, beheaded her, set the parents’ apartment on fire, and then entered a subway station in central Moscow wearing a hijab, holding the severed head in her hand, while shouting: “Allahu Akbar!” “I am a terrorist!” and “Allah ordered me to do this.” Security camera footage (shown in the article) captures her walking through the streets with the head in her hand. She was arrested on the spot.

During the investigation, medical examinations determined that she suffered from chronic schizophrenia (with a history documented at a clinic in Samarkand since 2003). A court declared her mentally insane (not criminally responsible) and ordered her confinement in a specialized psychiatric institution to receive compulsory medical treatment instead of serving a sentence in a regular prison.
