Marion County, Florida — A sheriff’s deputy was ambushed and stabbed multiple times in the chest after responding to a suspicious person call in Dunnellon.
On May 13, Deputy Robert Fitch was immediately attacked by 38-year-old Heriberto Medina Marquez as he exited his patrol vehicle. The suspect knocked him to the ground and repeatedly stabbed him before fleeing into the woods.
Medina Marquez was quickly arrested. After being cuffed he told deputies: “I should have killed you.”
The deputy survived thanks to his bulletproof vest. The suspect is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and is being held without bond.
