On March 1, 2026, following strikes by the United States and Israel in which Iranian supreme leader Ali Khamenei was assassinated, the United States Consulate General in Karachi, Pakistan was targeted by supporters of Khamenei. As protests escalated, the Marine Security Guards and local police opened fire, killing at least 35 protesters, including 16 in the port of Karachi where security guards at the U.S. consulate fired on demonstrators who breached the outer wall, six in the northern city of Skardu where the crowd torched a U.N. office, seven in Gilgit and six in Islamabad, and injuring over 120 people.

The crowd initially remained peaceful but grew agitated, leading to attempts to breach the consulate's outer wall.

Security forces, including the Sindh Police and Pakistan Rangers, responded with tear gas and batons to prevent entry. Clashes intensified as protesters threw stones, vandalized the building's exterior, and set fire to vehicles. Reports indicate that gunfire was used to disperse the crowd, resulting in at least nine fatalities and over 24 injuries among the protesters. The Edhi rescue service confirmed the casualties, noting that several of the wounded were in critical condition.
