28-year-old and a 22-year-old Beaumont woman have been arrested in connection with a disturbance that left an officer seriously injured at a Beaumont bar early Friday morning.

The officer ended up with serious head injuries after attempting to detain Jamaysha Butler, 28, during a disturbance at Little Woodrow’s, according to a news release from Beaumont Police.

By midday on Friday, the officer had been transferred to a Houston hospital and remains in serious but stable condition, according to Beaumont Police.

The disturbance happened at about 1:40 a.m. in the parking lot of the bar at 6210 Phelan Blvd, where officers were sent for a reported disturbance, police said.

During the confrontation, when Butler fled the scene in a vehicle, the officer ran after the car, which was a convertible with the top down.

Video of the incident posted to social media shows the officer grabbing a hold of the door as the woman pulls away, causing him to fall backward onto the pavement. As the car speeds away, the officer can be seen lying motionless on the ground.

Police have not identified the officer who was taken by ambulance to a Beaumont hospital for treatment. He remains hospitalized with a serious head injury, according to police.

After Butler was identified as the primary suspect, she was later arrested in the 3800 block of Kings Row.

Butler has been charged with intoxication assault and evading detention and police say both charges are enhanced charges because they involve serious bodily injury to a peace officer.

She was taken to the Jefferson County correctional Facility where her bond has not yet been set.

A second woman, Melissa Bell, 22, was also arrested in connection with the incident.

Bell faces multiple charges including public intoxication, resisting arrest, interference with public duties and assault on a peace officer. Her charges are not enhanced.

She also had outstanding warrants at the time of her arrest.

Neither woman has been arraigned so no bond has been set, according to Jefferson County Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins, Sr.

Both women will be arraigned on Saturday morning, Judge Collins told 12News on Friday afternoon.

If a bond is set for them, each will be required to wear an ankle monitor and will not be allowed to leave ..
