According to Brigadier William Castaño, acting commander of the Metropolitan Police, the officer was on break and was shot , apparently in the midst of an act of intolerance outside a commercial establishment.

" There was an argument that apparently took place inside the establishment and when the mayor, who was on his break, was leaving the place, this person approached him, continuing the argument, and that is when he was confronted with a weapon and hit him in the body, causing his death," he said.

The brigadier also said that the authorities have identified the suspect and are working together with the Attorney General's Office to issue the corresponding arrest warrant.

"We invite this person, known as alias 'Fausto', to immediately surrender to the authorities because, in one way or another, he has already been fully identified ," added Brigadier Castaño.

On the other hand, according to witnesses of the incident, they indicated that the argument apparently began "over a few glances" inside the establishment and intensified outside, culminating in the tragic outcome.
