A retired military police officer shot and killed a robber after witnessing a criminal act that took place last Saturday (27) in the Campo Limpo neighborhood, in the south of São Paulo.
The São Paulo Public Security Department reported that the retired police officer was in a commercial establishment located on Avenida Anacé when a robber approached a victim and asked him to hand over his motorcycle.
The police officer reportedly identified himself and ordered the arrest, but, according to the department, the criminal shot at him, when the retired agent shot back.
The department reports that the criminal, aged 24, was taken to the Campo Limpo municipal hospital, but died at the scene. Five gold rings were found with him. The items were allegedly the result of previous robberies in the same region. The belongings were recovered and returned to the victims.
The weapon and motorcycle used to carry out the robberies were also seized, as was the retired officer's weapon. The names of both the police officer and the robber were not released.
Cameras at the establishment where the incident occurred recorded the incident. In the images, it is possible to see the retired police officer, wearing a green shirt, being served at the counter. In front of the establishment, there is a motorcycle parked.
As the owner of the motorcycle leaves and returns from the establishment carrying purchased goods, a man in a black shirt approaches the location, gets on the victim's vehicle and tries to start it. The motorcyclist notices, runs to the motorcycle and goes after the suspect. The motorcycle falls to the ground, when the assailant pulls out a gun and goes towards the victim.
Upon realizing what was happening, the retired officer shot the robber several times. It is not possible to see if the criminal tried to shoot the police officer.
The case was registered as robbery and homicide, with death resulting from police intervention.
