A terrible fire broke out yesterday afternoon in Fryazino, Moscow Region, in the former building of the Platan Research Institute. At the moment, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reports six deaths, the exact number is still being determined.

The flames completely engulfed the building's floors from the fifth to the eighth. Eyewitnesses heard an explosion - probably a gas cylinder exploded. Fire burst out of the windows, desperate and burnt people jumped to the ground in the hope of saving themselves.

The open fire was extinguished by evening, the building was extinguished with the help of a fire helicopter. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation cites faulty electrical wiring as a preliminary version of the cause of the fire.

The research institute building became privately owned in the late 1990s, and has since housed offices and production facilities. The owners told Shot that the only fire alarm system there was a scream — the alarm had not worked for a long time, the power could go out for several days in winter, and the building was poorly maintained. The fire destroyed their equipment and goods worth millions of rubles. Some people who worked in the building blame the headlamp manufacturing workshop for the fire, whose employees allegedly did not follow safety regulations.
