A three-year-old boy died after being hit by a four-wheel drive vehicle in a luxury residential area in this city, on Friday.
Based on the viral video footage, the child who was playing the scooter was seen stopping at the intersection, before a black four-wheeled vehicle continued to crash into him.
The child is believed to have died at the scene of the incident while the driver of the vehicle is believed to have suffered no injuries.
Earlier, a 21-second video recording of the accident went viral on social media.
South Johor Bahru District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat when contacted confirmed receiving the report of the incident and informed that his side was conducting an investigation.
"The 32-year-old driver of the four-wheel drive vehicle is being investigated according to Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said when contacted by reporters.
He said, if convicted, the driver could be fined between RM20,000 and RM50,000, and jailed for between five and 10 years.
