1 Dead and 8 Injured After Flyover Crane Collapses, Hitting Babaranjang Train in Muara Enim

Muara Enim -The incident that a flyover construction crane collapsed onto a train in Muara Enim, South Sumatra, claimed lives. A project worker reportedly died after being hit by rubble. Apart from that, one resident's house was also destroyed.

"Yes, that's right, one person died after being rushed to the hospital in Muara Enim," said Muara Enim Police Chief AKBP Jhoni Eka, confirmed by detikSumbagsel, Thursday (7/3/2024).

Apart from the project officer who died, he continued, there were eight other people who were victims, both project officers themselves and railway officers.

Apart from being evacuated to the hospital in Muara Enim, he said, some of the victims were also rushed to Prabumulih Hospital to receive medical treatment.

In this incident, Jhony did not deny that 1 house unit was reported to have been destroyed as a result of being hit by the rubble of the girder construction of the flyover.

"Yes, eight people were slightly injured, some were taken to Muara Enim Hospital, others were taken to Prabumulih Hospital to be given medical treatment," he said.

Currently, he continued, the process of evacuating the train that was hit by the rubble of the project building is still being carried out. However, the train carriages blocking the Jalinsum road have been successfully evacuated.

"If the carriages were blocking the road, they have been evacuated, so vehicles can now pass. However, there are still more carriages that are still in the process of being evacuated and it looks like it will be finished soon," he said.

Traffic police officers, he said, are still in the field working to clear up traffic jams. The condition of the road to and from Muara Enim is now gradually improving.

"It's starting to run smoothly, the Traffic Head and members are still making arrangements. The alternative route is still open to clear it up," he explained.

Previously, a flyover construction building collapsed onto a train in Muara Enim, South Sumatra. As a result, several railway officers were reported to have been injured and the Jalinsum section there had to be temporarily diverted.

The incident occurred at the Prabumulih-Muara Enim Jalinsum, right at the railway crossing in the Bantaian area, Penanggiran, Gunung Megang, Muara Enim collapsed and crushed the Babaranjang train, on Thursday (7/3/2024) afternoon.

"Yes, that's right, it happened at around 11.15 WIB, and I was still at the location," said Muara Enim Police Chief AKBP Jhoni Eka, confirmed by detikSumbagsel.

The incident, he said, occurred when the empty Babaranjang train was passing from Palembang to Muara Enim.

"The train that was hit by the flyover girder was not a passenger train. It was a Babaranjang train carrying coal, but at the time of the incident the coal was empty (unladen), from Palembang to Muara Enim," he said.
