An undetermined number of people lost their lives and others were injured after a heavy collision occurred on the highway connecting Playa del Carmen with Tulum.

The crash was registered this Sunday at the Palladium Hotel. Two pickup trucks were involved, being a private pickup truck the one that crashed against an Urvan type pickup truck.

According to initial reports, the crash was caused by speeding and the pavement was wet due to the rain.

The rear of the private van was destroyed and the impact caused some of the passengers to be ejected through the rear windshield, in addition to the right side door opening.

The driver of the Urvan sustained serious injuries to his right arm.

Preliminarily, it is reported that between six and seven people lost their lives in the accident.

According to local media, most of the victims in the private van were tourists.
