Balikpapan - No one knows when death will come. As experienced by H Samsul Bahri. He breathed his last breath while serving as imam at morning prayers at the Jami Al Ula Mosque, West Balikpapan, on Tuesday (2/1/2024).

The incident, which was recorded on a CCTV camera, also went viral on social media. The priest died while prostrating. There were various responses from the people of the City of Faith. Many expressed their condolences and prayed for the deceased.

One of the administrators of the Mosque Welfare Board (DKM) of the Balikpapan Jami Al Ula Mosque, namely Abdul Kadir, said that at the time of the incident he was in second row.

"He died in the first prostration of the first rakat of the morning prayer," explained Abdul Kadir, when met at the Al Ula Jami Mosque.

It was stated that Samsul Bahri died at around 05.15 WITA while prostrating. So, another mosque imam, namely H Burhansyah, continued to lead the morning prayers.

After the morning prayers, the deceased's body was taken by the mosque administrators to the Sayang Ibu Hospital located in the West Balikpapan area, before being handed over to his family who live on Jalan Letjen Suprapto, West Balikpapan.

Abdul Kadir added that Samsul Bahri was known as an active member of the congregation and DKM administrator, and never had disagreements with other people. The deceased was also known as the owner of the Arif Rahman Pharmacy which is opposite the Malaysian Army Representative Office, West Balikpapan.

Apart from that, the deceased was also a role model for mosque congregations because he had good ability to memorize the Koran. "We as DKM Jami Al Ula Mosque express our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. God willing, he will die in husnul khatimah condition," he added.

It was observed that many mosque congregants took part in the funeral prayers which were held after Asr prayers at the Jami Al Ula Mosque. Furthermore, Samsul Bahri's body was buried at the Taman Merdeka Public Cemetery (TPU), Baru Ulu Village.
